The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognised buildings in the world. Situated on Bennelong Point just north of the Sydney Central Business District. The Sydney Opera House is one of the busiest performing art centres in the world, hosting over 1500 events a year, and being attended by more then 1.2 million people.

Generally the Opera House is one of the most visited sites in Sydney, with more then several million people visiting the site each year and many others sailing or boating past.

Designed by the Danish architect Jorn Utzon back in the 1950's the buidling was behind schedule in its completion date. The Opera House was supposed to be finished and opened in the mid 1960's though due to many building and weather conditions the Opera House was not completed and opened till 20th October 1973. The Opera House was opened by Queen Elizabeth II and due to problems with Utzon and the New South Wales Government and it building contractors, Utzon resigned from the project in 1966, he was never invited back to the opening of the Opera House, nor was his name mentioned during the opening.

To this day the Opera House remains one of the stand out symbols of Sydney, next to its mate across the water the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Sydney Opera House became hertitage listed on the 28th June 2007.
